Very few bands have made a mark on heavy metal quite like Pantera. Hailing from Arlington, Texas, they formed in 1981, spearheaded by the unstoppable Abbott Brothers, Dimebag Darrell on the guitar and Vinnie Paul on the Drums, they brought in Phil Anselmo on vocals and Rex Brown on the Bass, and with that lineup history was bound to be made!

Pantera is one of the defining forces behind groove metal, a genre that emerged in the early 90s and changed heavy metal music forever. Their influence can be heard in countless bands today, from Slipknot and Machine Head to Trivium and Avenged Sevenfold. With over twenty million records sold and four grammy nominations, its no surprise they remain one of the most celebrated metal bands of all times. 

Their early years saw them experimenting with their sound, releasing four albums before locking into the aggressive, groove driven tone that fans know and love. It was their fifth album that truly put them on the map, and by 1994, “Far Beyond Driven” had debuted at number one on the billboard top 200 which is an incredible achievement for a heavy metal band! They continued to dominate the scene until tragedy struck in 2004 with the passing of Dimebag Darrell, then in 2018, Vinnie Pauls death made it seem like a reunion was impossible. 

But in 2022, the impossible happened. Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante stepped in to honour the legacy of Pantera, and in 2023, the band returned to the stage for the first time in over two decades. What was initially planned to be a 2023 tour has extended through to 2025, proving that the demand for Pantera’s music is stronger than ever, and with Amon Amarth joining them? This is the kind of tour that metalheads dream about.
